The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (SPCR) supports the initiative to revise the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). While the sector recognizes the importance of data protection, it highlights the need for greater legal certainty, a reduction in the administrative burden, and the cultivation of an environment conducive to innovation and the development of the EU Single Market.

In its recommendations, the SPCR emphasizes the need for an approach oriented toward practicality and competitiveness. It criticizes the vague and overly broad definition of personal data, which hinders data-driven innovation, and calls on the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) to issue more detailed guidelines on anonymization and pseudonymization.

Regarding Artificial Intelligence, the Confederation welcomes the clarification that AI training can be based on legitimate interest, while simultaneously pointing out the necessity of limiting excessive red tape. Furthermore, it draws attention to the abuse of the right of access under Article 15 of the GDPR, particularly in labor disputes, and supports restoring a balance between the rights of data subjects and the legitimate interests of controllers. Finally, the SPCR recommends a revision of the exemption from the obligation to maintain records of processing activities (ROPA), which currently does not apply in practice even to small and medium-sized employers, thus missing its original purpose.
