On Saturday, February 28, our Grant Thornton team participated in the now-traditional K Cero Invest tournament, which celebrated its third year. Held at the picturesque Hotel Don Giovanni as part of the Prague Chess Festival, this event is specifically designed for enthusiasts from the real estate and finance sectors.

The stakes were high; following a second-place finish in the inaugural year and a victory last year, expectations were lofty. Nevertheless, our players managed to clinch the top spot once again while truly enjoying the experience. This year, our representatives competed in a three-man lineup: Martin Hollan, Jirka Strobach, and Michal Otradovec.

Both Michal and Jirka played with uncompromising grit, defeating seasoned opponents left and right. Michal, for instance, faced off against the brilliant mathematician and chess festival sponsor Karel Janeček, whom he even managed to beat. Jirka went head-to-head with three titled players and came remarkably close to an upset against Grandmaster Jirovský in the final round.

Ultimately, the team successfully defended last year's victory, finishing with a substantial lead over the runners-up. In the end, however, it’s not just about winning. As with many things in life, it’s primarily about the people. A wonderful finishing touch to the tournament was a chessboard signed by the reigning World Chess Champion, Gukesh Dommaraju, which the team brought home from the Prague Chess Festival.

Congratulations and a big thank you for representing the Grant Thornton colors so excellently—Martin, Jirka, and Michal!
